While I get what you’re saying… they literally traded a man who was convicted for trying to kill Americans for a washed up ball player who broke the law as well. All while leaving a marine behind in the prison system. I’d be willing to bet at anytime we could have traded the same prisoner for said marine.

If you went to a country that we have had significant tensions with for the past, well ever, as a high profile person. Doing so while you were carrying an illegal drug. To a country where they are heavy handed. You should be left there.

Exactly, from what I have read she got a typical sentence. They are much harsher on drugs than we are. It was a fair sentence in their judicial system. I’ve always heard when you play stupid games you win stupid prizes. But luckily for her the White House seemed to put this first hand

my whole view of the world is dependent on the razor sharp political opinion of Hollywood stars. The only people more in touch with current events and have the intellect to translate whats happening to us common folk are social media influencers!
 
So, I just started reading up on Viktor Bout.

"By 2007, the U.S. deemed Bout such a threat that it tasked the DEA with setting up a sting operation to catch him. The DEA crafted a plan to have agents pose as members of a violent Colombian rebel faction seeking missiles that could shoot down American aircrafts and arms that could kill American forces."

I find it interesting that they say he was a threat to Americans. I'm sure there is more to read, but they set up that whole deal. Did he take advantage of the opportunity, of course, but didn't seem like he set out to do that.
I'm generally not a fan of enforcement setting up people for most things. Like, prostitutes, drug stings and stuff like that. This is a little more deep than that.

Educate me more on this.
