Military Vehicles Thread

I have a set of four Hutchinson 20" internal bead clamp rings, pulled from a set of XMLs. Looks to be about in as good of shape as possible.

What are these worth and does anyone want them?

I have some wheels that are missing the beadlocks so I could use them, but they aren't worth shipping or coming to get them. I don't know what the 'right' person would pay for them, but I can't imagine it being much. I sell wheels with bad tires on them for $50-100 each just to get rid of them.

A driveshaft that is about a foot long that weighs about 60 lbs. Had a bad vibration under load and hopefully this was the issue. Took it out to replace the u-joints and figured out the slip yoke was seized. Took a 75 ton press to break it loose. 12-ton press and heat wouldn't budge it.

Thanks Oliver's Driveshaft for the u-joints.

The MTVR'S were not designed to carry a spare tire since the military has unlimited funds, they just send a rescue crew so the guys driving the trucks don't pull a muscle changing a tire. I made a mount for a spare tire crane I had from a MK48, it's not pretty but it works! Tire fits perfect behind the cab, I may beef up the area the tire sits on as it is made out of aluminum.

Had a tree fall on the platform my dad had built for jumping off of in the tire swing, the boys have been camping out a LOT so I decided to make something they could use to camp in. Still need to do some work on mounting the cab roof better, but it's a start. Not as tall as the old platform but it will do. I figured with the price of lumber, this was easier, and scrap value wouldn't bring much anyways. If anyone needs an army truck bed to make their kids a fort, I have a few available :-D

If that's the tree swing that I went on a few years ago (fawk, it's probably been like 10 years now or something), that sucker was awesome! Your dad basically dared me to do it!

Didn't know you had ever even been here. But yes it would have been the one. My kids miss the tall one (it was only maybe 8-10ft to the floor), but when we build a new house and move I can take this one with me :-D

Yeah, dropping off a switch panel or buying some lights or something. You weren't around but I met your dad.

Drug another one home today. Had the C-12 retuned to 505hp (from 410) and MAN did it make a huge difference. Have not towed a trailer yet but it pulled the LMTV home from West End (near Southern Pines) and easily maintained 60 up 220. Before the retune, even empty it would drop down to 55-58 on normal highway hills.

Three trucks dropped off in two days. Been busy around here. M1089a1 wrecker, m1093 cargo (will be a parts truck but it does run/move if anyone is interested!), And m1088a1 that will be a parts truck. Looks to have been rear-ended.

First military tracked vehicle I have owned (that runs), it is a M548a1. It has been sitting at Delk's in Asheboro for at a minimum of 7 years. I got it home, put some batteries in and after some cranking it fired up and runs great. It does need a water pump so I can't run it long. Have a buyer for it in Colorado so I will let him deal with the water pump.

For the moment I hid it behind a tree so my wife won't see it out the kitchen window.

Out of curiosity, how did you load/unload a tracked vehicle without in running? I assume winching it on, with a really big winch, but familiar with how well it would skid/roll on a trailer.

They pushed it on with a big forklift. It has brakes for each track to steer it (and they actually work). It rolls just like anything else when in neutral. I really wish I could drive it some more, the little bit I did to park it was neat, but I bet it would be fun to take it out through the woods.

Stumbled across this on FB and thought about this thread.

1998 Stewart & Stephenson m 1078
$15,000
Is that high or about average?

That is pretty high. A truck like that I would normally sell for about 10-12k. Granted that truck looks fairly nice, but I have never been able to get that much for a m1078. I sold a m1078 with winch for I think around 10-12k, but it's been awhile so I don't remember.

Mostly I part the trucks out because it is too hard to sell them whole for a decent price (because the nice trucks often bring too much $$ at auction)

I will have a m1078A1 (3126 Cat w/ pacbrake and 275hp--tuneable to 330hp instead of 225hp Cat 3116) soon. I do plan to sell it whole. Price will likely be in the $15-20k range. It is night/day difference going from the 3116 to the 3126.
