Pole barn style shop estimate

1500 square feet of concrete for under 7K? You must have a friend. More like 12K.
No friend here either, but mine was $6500 for about 1400sqft at 4" thick, but that included boring and setting the posts for me, 2 loads of gravel for the driveway, and several thickened areas. That was at $3/sqft finished, they've since gone up to $3.50/sqft. If you back out the slab concrete and a load of gravel, and adjust for current pricing, thats around $5000-5500.

6 is overkill unless you'll be driving forklifts on it regularly. .
Even then, I think 4" will suffice. My forklift weighs 11k pounds, and I've carried a 5000lb load with it from one corner of the shop to the other, so 16k gross, no issues. I initially was gonna go with 6", but even my 10k rated lift only required 4" concrete. I thickened two 3'x8' strips in the general area where the lift was gonna go and put in some extra rebar just because it seemed like a good idea and was cheap.

@tobaccoroad4wd . I'm a little "jelly". That's a nice building. More square and thicker pad. My height jacked mine up. Something for everybody to consider.....my second story dreams drove my cost considerably.

Nice building.

Concrete is no damn good in tension. This all comes back to subgrade preparation.

6" slab for my future shop.

You could always up the strength to 3500 or 4000 psi. I just did a driveway for a guy recently and we did 4000psi concrete 4” thick, welded wire fabric and a 20’ long apron at the street 6” thick. He works out of his garage shipping pallets of crap in and out every day and has freight deliveries to his home via large trucks backing up the drive.

How many of you guys have framed out a loft or 2nd story inside your pole barn/red iron building?
I really want upstairs storage but in my county we have this goofy code that detached buildings must be < 50% the sq footage of the primary, but pole barns are exempt.

I made a big shelf, 10ft by 34ft. I got the idea from seeing @BRUISER and @GONOVRIT shops

During inspection of the new steps by the fun police.

I highly recommend permanent steps if you do a loft or attic. Pull down, or any kind of narrow, steep steps are just too difficult to carry heavy or large stuff up and down.

And current state:

Mine came with a small 8x30 at the back, just wish I had a higher ceiling height.

Mine has an over-engineered mezzanine over top of the 12x12 office/pisser. I use it for pallet storage and also steel storage.
When I build my shop on my OWN property one day, it'll definitely have as much framed in overhead storage as possible.

I could not find the email but I was quoted $35K for a 30 x 40 by Carolina Post and Frame. That is turn key by the way. They do all the permits and site work and concrete. It might be 5 years before I actually start it though. lol! Carolina Post Frame

I've sent them my information...but haven't heard anything back yet

Yes I will have to sell my office/shop in Hartsville or the house before I can do mine in Camden. Until then I'll keep clearing it with the jeep and my chainsaw.... :) Of course both mortgages get paid off in 5 or 6 years so at least there is a light.....
