Stock class XJ build.

Long arms on but ran out of paint.

New coils are in. Waiting for track bar and front will be almost done.

I watched Kevin from Ironman beat on that long arm set up in Harlan this month. He seriously went balls to the wall into lower rock garden. Exploded a rear shaft DC. Front end took it all in stride.

Time to pack the tools load the trailer and go racing.

Things changed since last race:
Iron Man 4x4 long arms kit with new crossmember.
Added skid plates to it.
coils.
brake lines.
Limiting straps.
Modified track bar.
Extended driveshaft.
Spark plugs.
Wires.
Dist cap.
Coil.
Starter.
Fixed a pillar.
Fixed LED light bar.
Fixed race helmet wiring.
New trailer tire.

Lots of work but as they say winning starts in the shop.

Wow is all I can say about the KMC race in bluegrass. We worked hard to make sure the Cherokee was 100% for this race and it worked great in pre running. The bad part was it rained like crazy and the race course turned to a slippery mess.

The one issue we had was if it stalled we could not restart without waiting a few minutes. We believed it to be the fuel lines getting too hot. So we wrapped them with insulation hoping that would fix the issue.

We decided to qualify as we felt good about the jeep, so we did and we found the front engine skid was hitting the front driveshaft. We ended up in 4th 15 seconds from 1st for starting order. So we had a guy power wash the Jeep so we could work on it as it was NASTY

Race day started with us 4th off the line and we decided due to sloppy mess to not run at 100% speed and be conservative for a while. Once the race started we hit the hammer but under control. Within 1 mile we had caught the third place car and passed him and by the time we came to the start/finish line we were in 1st place and held it all the way into the third lap.

But then the dang fuel issue caught up to us and it stalled and we had to sit for 10 minutes for it to cool down. This happened three times which let everyone catch back up to us and we ended up in 4th place. It is hard knowing you had it in the bag and such a small issue lost it.. but we will find the issue and fix it for next time.

We had a blast and the Cherokee is almost at 100% and once it is we will be a force to be reckoned with.

Thanks to our families for letting us go after our dreams.

And a huge thank you to our sponsors. Without you all this would not be possible.

Thats awesome guys. Ive been following along and am glad yall did well.

We are in 8th place for the national series points and 2nd in the Eastern Series points.. waiting for the kentucky points to be added to see where we land after this past weekends race

So, after a long ride home with time to discuss, what are you're thoughts on the running issue?
Fuel as you though (did you check for presence at fuel rail?) or something else (ignition/power) getting hot?

I bought a crank position sensor I am going to replace, going to reroute fuel lines on top of intake instead of between intake and header and then go to URE or somewhere and run it hard and see if it fails..

I also need to put in a new radiator as it cracked when I hit a tree and then change out location or air intake filter also..

hope to have it fixed and running very quickly.. as i have found other races I would like to attend and test before going back out to KOH in Feb

It sounds like a fuel pump that is overheating to me. Happened to us twice back in the ECORS days. For me it was debris in the pump inlet when we had that race at DPG during hurricane Irene.
What kind of tank/cell and pump are you running and where is the pump mounted?

Good call. I've had in-tank fuel pumps get so hot that they pressurized the tank and couldn't overcome the pressure on the return side. The fuel tank was warm to the touch, and removing the fuel cap restored fuel flow.

Plastic bladder with foam inside.with metal case. And pump is e2000 under the Jeep so it syphons.

One guy mentioned to take the foam out and put those PVC like pieces inside as they don't break down like foam can. It is all new as of this Jan before the KOH race.

I am not 100% sold it is pump as one time when it died Doug jumped out and pour cold water on fuel rail to see what it would do which was nothing so he then check the fuel rail pressure and it shot out like normal.

I remember one time in Tellico a guy was coming up lower 2 in his xj and it died. He got out popped the hood and let it sit for 15 min or so. He jumped back in and it fired right up and he went on up the trail. His CPS got hot and quit working. Of course you know this but it's still a cool story.....
