the hundred push ups training program

the wife just talked me into doing more pushups. I didn't think that I would be able to do 20 but I was able to do 40 before I rolled over and bought had a heart attack.

I used to work out daily about 6 years ago. I could do 50 pushups on a whim, and let me tell you I was not prepared for the realization of the pile of mush I have become.

I cranked out a whopping 15 for my initial test. I could have possibly done a few more, but there's no sense in hurting myself. So, I did week 1 column 3.

The first night I hit my goals, but the max out set damn near killed me. The second night I redid the same sets, my arms were killing me still. I'll do my 3rd night of week one tomorrow.

I'm also not the most motivated person in the world, so ya'll are going to have to nudge me along at times. I'm counting on ya'lls help.

.
same here. It sucks knowing what I used to be able to do compared to what I'm able to do now.

I just finished day 2 successfully.
10 - 12 - 8 - 8 - 15 (12 was max)
I noticed the rest time increases from day 1 to 2 to 3. Don't know if anyone else may have missed that too.

Thats right..I had forgot that the rest times increase some...I just hand wrote out the days, and rep schedule, so I wouldnt have to keep checking the link...guess I had better check and write down the rest times..lol That will help.

On friday, I worked real late and was dog tired when I got home. I tried to do week 3 col. 3 but couldnt squeeze them all out.

As self punishment, I am starting week 3 over, on Monday.

I'm taking a little different approach to this. I'll try day one every other day until I can do it successfully. Then day two every other day until successful. Then day three every other day. After successfully doing day three, I'll take 2 days off before starting day one of week 2.

Since day 2 was successful and felt pretty good last night, I'll start on day 3 tomorrow. Until last night it felt like my arms were ripping out of my torso. What a pansy I've become. lol

From a strength and muscle building standpoint thats not a very good approach. By doing the sets and maxing out on the last one you should be breaking down the muscle fibers. The muscle fibers need a couple of days to repair and grow. Thats what gives the increase in strength. Thats also a big reason this program works a lot better if you really push yourself to the max on the last set.

I just did the exhaustion test following the end of week 4 and have a new max of 62.:bounce2:

I don't see the difference? Following the program, (3 days a week) is every other day then two days off. There may be a week here and there that I do pushups four days. I'm not going to get all tore up about it, no biggie.

Heck, doing ONE pushup ONE day a week is more than I was doing. :D

Sorry I misread your post. I thought you said you were doing it everyday (i.e. no rest period). Please disregard.

Day 1, wk3, column 3

14, 18, 14, 14, 28(min 20)

I did less in the fifth set than I did last Friday, and the first four sets weren't much different. Looks like I lost a little strength over the w/e, lol.

Week 1, Day 3, Col 3

11, 15, 9, 9, 20 (min 13)

:bounce:

Question about the exhaustion tests. Are you supposed to do them the same day as your workout? The next day?

I'm back working full steam and my wrists are feeling it..they can barely hold me in the push up position. When the wrist soreness goes away, i'll be back at it.

I am a drill sergeant here at FT Benning. I am going to make my soldiers do this for night PT. Then I am going to run them 2 miles. I do this thing at the end of cycle were we do like 200 push ups. we break down in groups of 25. I love this program though.

My right shoulder was aching and woke me up during the night Tuesday. Ached at work all day Wednesday just sitting at my desk. I bagged the workout last night. I might be out for good. Seems like my right shoulder just can't take the abuse for more than about four/five workouts.

Week 4, Day 2, column 3

25, 29, 25, 25. 41(min 36)

my wife watches me do these each night and thinks I am crazy.
of course she is 8 months preggo and said there is no way she could even do 1 right now :)

i also am going to do this. i did the first test and maxed out at 30, so i'll be starting at week 3. i like doing push ups, i do about 25-30 a few times a week but never on a program, and never seem to be able to get any more then 30. maybe this will help

Hopeless...

My kids just want to jump on my back when I get on the floor. It's hard enough doing pushups without the extra 50lbs on my back.

Week 2 Day 1 failed. I couldnt even do the final set bc of the "help" I had. :)

Will try again later.

Yep, thats what my issue was. Mri revealed tendonits & torn cup.

I got a bad right shoulder but I try to focus on using my chest and not my shoulders. I still feal it in my rt shoulder but it's tolleratable(sp). And to my suprise I finished week 4 column 3 with 29,33,29,29 and the min of 40
