Trailer Build

I have the flip-up jacks like that also and they are great.
 
Thought about them for my trailer, but my dove tail is too low. I am thinking about some tube welded on the side with some adjustable feet. to load my Jeep I don't need ramps, just something to keep my trailer from raising the rear of my Van, Have used blocks of wood, but depends on where you park and terrain.
 
I am going to get the axles welded on soon.

I was going to get them centered and tracking by taking measurements from the hitch to the spring equalizer.

Does that seem right?
 
I got the axles under it today. I braced the frame with gussets and a piece of 6" channel running down the middle of the axles.

I got the tongue welded and I put a plate over and under the hole where the jack would have gone.

You can see the conduit that I ran the length of the trailer for wiring her up.

I also cut out some gussets for the underside of the cross pieces.
You can see the conduit running along the frame rail.

I welded a plate to the outside of the C to weld the hitch to.

Looks good. How about giving us a final tally for the build when you get finished. I am looking a doing trailer build myself and have been trying to get a total cost of making one vs. buying one.

This is my first trailer build so I would not judge the cost of building one based on mine. I also went overboard on material strength. You could build one a lot cheaper than the one I am doing.

But yeah, I will post up final cost, dry/wet weight and such.

I would bet that he would only get him pics and detailed info if Lee is really interested. If not he will tell him to quit wasting his time.:flipoff2:

Looks like your spring mounts may be a little close.
Your shackle on the center should point more to the axles because when you load them the spring will grow in length a few inches and lock on the EQ bar in the center.
You want the shackles when loaded to be up and down or a little to the axle.
I went out to look at some just to make sure and the ones I built all when loaded are up and down and if you let the axle flop like yours they are at a 45 angle.
Just something to look at.
Also what axles you go with 5k to 6k ? 6 lugs are most likly 5-6k.
When I was building my trailers I could not find the eq bars like that rated more then for 3.5k axles. If those are for 5-6k axles let me know where you got them so I can use them on them on the next build. If set up correctly they give more movement up and dowm per axle then the slipper EQ on my big trailer. If I drive over a curb I lift tires on the big trailer but with that type on a 5K trailer they stay on the ground longer, better if you use the trailer off road like on a farm or in my case hunting or camping.
 
curious why you chose to put the decking supports on top of the 6" channel instead of droping them down in between the frame rails and making them flush with the top???

I was wondering the same thing.
 
He is seriously looking for something. He is debating between Toyota pickup and Sammi, maybe a 4runner. He said if can get pictures and some details on what it has then he will go from there but he isn't offering anything without knowing more about it.

And why put the C out on the front.
I could see the c out on the frame if you were going to puy the deck inside but c out and deck on top?????
By the time wood goes on it will be tall but not tall enough for a true deck over you will still need to have a fender to drive over or open and drive over the tires.

The reason I did it was because this is my first time building a trailer and I figured it would be stronger that way. Also the fender wells worked out better if the 3" was higher. But then again what do I know?
I got the wheels on today and it will sit at 24" with the deck on. I don't think that is to unreasonably high.

I had a reason but I forgot. It is what it is.

I am going to make the fenders strong enough to drive over.

My trailer sits at 24" top of deck also and it is great.. no problems at all..
 
I am just using these tires while I shop around for some STs.

I like what I see. Looking good. Some good gussets on the fenders and you can park it there and even tie down on it. Just make them high enough that with the load, you will still have clearance for the tires. I have my fenders so I can drive over them too. Works out great. Some rigs you have to park on them to get the right tongue weight.

I want to get some ST tires. I have been looking at the Goodyear Marathons.

You could see if they are selling those. A tire/wheel package would be nice. I need 5.
 
I picked up mounted maxxis trailer tire, load range E, on white spoke rims from them a couple months back. Free mounting and balancing too.
