Burgers tonight. Will edit and post my super secret recipe in a few minutes.
My mom taught home-ec at the the high school for 37 years, starting in 1951. Sometime in the late 70's one of her students shared this recipe, so we have always called it "Julie's burgers" after her student.
Measurements, as with anything I cook, are an approximation...
Thoroughly combine the following (I put in a mixing bowl and squash and separate and fold and turn by hand):
1lb hamburger
1 cup bread crumbs (stuffing)
3/4 cup applesauce
2 TSP garlic
1 medium onion, finely chopped (I use a food processor/chopper)
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 egg
With the extra liquid, they tend to need to cook a little longer, I start with about 8 minutes per side. I think tonight they took about 22 minutes total over med to high heat on the grill. Turn gently, and don't squish or cut to check doneness. Best to use an instant thermometer. I shoot for 150-155 internal.
I don't think I've ever added apple sauce but I've made burgers more or less this way since HS. I usually use slightly less oatmeal than you call for breadcrumbs and sometimes add shredded cheese.

Smoked some chicken thighs tonight w some Wild Turkey tenderloin. Both rubbed w traeger chicken rub overnight.Put the cut up loin on tinfoil w the thighs over them. The fat from the thighs basted the turkey meat.It was awesome.
The thighs were skin up and covering the loins for a hour, then spread them around and turned the loins.
Did a rump roast sous vide last night, cut into it for dinner with a few grilled shrimps. Cheese on the tater cause we are out of butter. 4 more days til a store trip.
I really, really, really cheated on the shrimps.... The frozen pre-cooked shrimp were on sale at food lion last week, almost half price. Took a couple of dozen out and thawed them in a bowl of water. Then ran them thru a fry pan with some olive oil and lots of extra spicy mrs dash. Just enough to brown a bit, but not turn to rubber since they were already cooked. They were pretty darn good.
More like 'dinner' on the farm growing up, as far as a midday meal, but I made turkey chili and beer bread from a new recipe. It was good with butter and honey along side the chili but also good with some orange marmalade. I'm going to have to break out my last jar of whiskey lime marmalade to try with it...
Had to destroy the evidence so that Comrade Cooper would not be aware of my actions. I spend too much time near 2nd story windows. But it probably looked something like this:
I sure hate it, but I totally forgot to take pics of the grill and food. Had some folks over for social distancing tonight. Had both grills going, and filled slap full with flounder (fresh off the boat), shrimp, corn, asparagus, zucchini, and taters.
Funny part, after we set up (on the patio) and before our guests arrived, the Fedex guy came around to the back to drop a package off. For grins and giggles, we had put a very ornate set of gold leaf candelabras that had come out of my mom's house, and we had stored away at our place. I was standing there, and the Fedex guy kept cutting his eyes over my shoulder, looking at the fancy gold candelabras sitting on a plastic table, with dollar tree plastic tablecloth. I'm sure about the same time we were eating, he was sitting with his homies at his table, and saying "You wouldn't believe what I seen today at these motherfawking white crackers house...."
