Funny you should mention that...

The satellite radio quit working in my Equinox (my mom's "old" car) somewhere around last September? I was bummed because she had paid it through January of 2025. I just now got around to figuring out what was up with it. 80 bucks for an antenna base and we're good to go. GM used these on a million different vehicles from 2010 through 2018, probably longer knowing them. Thankfully, you can get to the hardware by pulling the headliner down at the rear and not completely removing it.

I also decided to get a replacement for the actual antenna itself and I got a Stubby Jr :lol: Two inches works JUST fine! The stock one made it look like an RC car anyway.

Yep! So far, so good. I haven't had it lose an XM signal. AM/FM are always good too. For 20 bucks, I can't complain.
 
Got the radio completely sorted yesterday.
Since I wasn’t driving it I unhooked everything that wasn’t a necessity because Samurai’s or notorious for parasitic draw.
I got the ignition on 12v to the radio working right.
I got the constant 12v to the memory working right.
Got all that wrapped up and memories set.
Aux-in and Bluetooth working.
About 2-3 hours worth of work that took.me.all.freakin’.day!

Then checked and found parasitic is bumping 13-18 ma ….. under 50 is considered normal.
Good to cruise and jam.

Then took a nap to recover.
 
Also also. While the radio was out I wanted to figure out why the hvac controls weren’t working.
Pretty sure 90% of the issues was the bent red control cable. I did my best to straighten it and sprayed as much wd40 as I could in them and worked them by hand.
Reinstalled there’s still a tight spot when selected the defrost and full cold, but I’ll just ignore that for now.

For you guys that are replacing the radio in your E36 bmw.
The weird antenna looking thing on the back of the OE radio is for the security system.
Top right in the below image

With it installed it opens a switch, removed and the switch closes and won’t let the central locks work.
All I had to do was unplug the pig tail and it opened the switch back up and allowed the locks to work again.
