Funny part is i was looking for this post to say we saw some memebers at the workday at ure and wanted to say thanks. Lets not condemn all these guys because of the actions of a few, lets get feedback from the ones that are trying and see how they handle the screw ups...

I am taking down the picture for now. The member sent me a PM and did not realize what he was doing and the spot not being legal it seems. When you see stuff like this posted all the time on sites like Raleigh 4x4 (before) others think its fine to do as well.

Isn't Chris one of the admins on RAW? All these guys always meet at Fuel Stop to wheel at Page Road and TW (at least a active RAW member)

I have a several pics of a lot of the guys wheeling yesterday on these trails, and I am pretty sure some of them made it to the workday also.

I am not familiar with the area. This is illegal areas to be in?

Well, they could have permission.. (cough, cough) I dout..

Reading this thread they know better. Maybe they are like children when you tell them not to touch something hot, they must be burnt before they realize the mistake.

In the mean time, we will all be condemned for the actions of a few..

This begs the question, should the 4x4 community self police? Since we are the ones who see it the most and recognize the illegality of it, should we be calling the local PDs to rememdy the situation?

I don't know who or which of there members may have/did illegal activity, but I can tell you this. There were around 5 or so of their members at the URE workday last weekend and they worked hard and with passion , they came prepared with tools and was very eager to jump in their and get the job done. So I believe their is a base of members their that are on the right track of setting the example and showing interest in a sustainable future of wheeling. I applaud their hard work and look forward to another workday and/ or a wheelin trip in the future.

Used to be a farm field and a commercial paintball place on the powerline south of Chin-Page rd. and wheeling was apparently legal, I and friends hunted there for years w no problems. Then bozos tore up the sewerline and damaged pipes and Mhs in the area, that's when the trouble started there. Last time I passed by it looks like the whole area is commercial/company owned property now. The powerline north of Chinpage has been posted/cabled off for at least 15 years but the signs and cables/gates don't seem to last very long.

From the pics I have seen at least one of the people at the work day doing illegal wheeling the day after. I can give you a name to verify if you want to pm me. Hopefully I am wrong

I imagine the Durham/Wake co. Sheriffs depts. are too busy w more serious crimes to answer the call, unless some larceny is reported or actual property owners w local addresses call w complaints/charges of trespassing or property damage.

Church on Sunday & the devil on Monday? Just because they helped & worked hard does not mean they get a free pass to do what's being done.

Nobody likes a rat, however there is a time & place for everything. I say call the popo on them. it's obvious that we cannot self police. Besides what would we do to an offender? chastise them? most that don't care about illegal wheeling wont care what we have to say as a group either.

You guys need to understand, we cannot control what our members do. We have told them the risk of "illegal wheeling" and that we do not approved, backing up those statements with reason. I ask you not to assume that all of our members are invovled in these issues. Just to inform cnc, I am also friends with some of your groups members on Facebook and they have done some illegal activity, but I don't pick at the fact that they do not follow your guidelines.

PS- Chris R is not an admin. He just started wheeling not to long ago, a newb if you will.

You can eject them from your group though... You can police your own. You can continue to educate & reinforce the guidelines of your group.

You can
you can
you can...

In no way do I assume that all your members are involved. However it looks that way, accessory to the fact ya know..

You most certainly can control what your members do. When they're caught in actions that are detrimental to the club, kick them out!

Since they insist on behaving like children, you could set up a progressive system.

1st time, warn them.
2nd time, ban them rfom club activities for a few months.
3rd time, permaban.

I'd like to know exactly who in CNC is riding illegally.

Like others have said, there are ways to police them and you do have control of what your members do. If you don't like what they do and what they represent, they should not represent your club. I know not all your members are, but many seem to be illegally wheeling still. You also allow them to still post the pictures on your page. How about a Thomas that was at the workday? Did he do illegal wheeling the next day?

PROVE IT..!!

If you are going to try to call someone out, then do so..

I want to see pics of said members, names, etc.

Because I will be the first to call them out publicly and if they do not change then I would recommend the club vote them out.

One member can give the entire club a bad name. What would it do for your club if it were brought to the attention of LEO and in the paper or worse the news? Then anyone who saw any vehicles with your clubs stickers would assume the same of you all.

Not to mention the more photos and discussing of illegal wheeling that is posted on your website, the more people come along and unknowingly assume that it's ok to wheel there.

Props for trying to do the right thing. You came to a work day, you say you have members in the right direction. But this is where the rubber meets the road and you have to define the foundation of your club.

Are you a group of hooligans that call yourself a club? Or are you an active, organized, disciplined group of mature off roaders that stand for something and make a difference?

It may suck to call someone out. It may be a close friend, but what these people are doing looks bad not only on your club, but to every single person on this website and driving a lifted 4x4. It effects us all.

If members of cnc are wheeling illegally they are doing it on there own, the club is not organizing these rides. That's the difference here. CNC as a club does not wheel on private property without permission first.

Just like you we cannot control what our members do on their free time. However we can control club activities CNC WILL NOT participate in illegal activities.

Justin- We are glad that some of your members made it to CNC 4x4 Club's Quarterly Meeting. I hope that they took something away from the Tread Lightly presentation and are putting it to good use.
As you saw at our meeting, our club is upfront on everything. (We share our finances, etc with anyone). We have been around for a long time are here to support the Tread Lightly way. Please post the links of the illegal activity that you have seen CNC members partake in. We want to know about it and act upon it.

Thank you,
Scott

I too would like to see something to substantiate the claims that CNC members partake in illegal wheeling. Just to be clear that CNC4x4 is not NC4x4... sometimes that "c" in our club's initials gets confused with this web forum.

I am friends with most of the CNC guys who are on FB and have never seen a picture or reference to an illegal wheeling location. To say that our organization is extremely sensitive to the issue, would be putting it mildly.

I suspect this is just a claim made to divert attention...

tagscook, care to elaborate on your like of my post about the Sheriffs? I have seen them and the Durham police busting wheelers at Page rd. in the past but don't get out that way lately. I also recall some big rocks and 2x6s w huge nails driven through them hidden in the deep mudholes on the powerline to damage illegal wheelers rigs. I assume some locals put them there along w alot of NO TRESPASSING signs cause the wheelers were interfereing w their hunting, on their land, and I also assume it could happen again.
