Turbo Solid Axle Tacoma Build

What time are the day-trippers getting out to the flats tomorrow?

We should be rolling in around 9am. We are stopping in Clemmons to get food around 7am, if you wanted to meet up. Some other Raleigh folks are rolling out around the same time.

Have yall already set a place in clemmons? Let me know, I might try and caravan.

Haha soon enough. I'll probably tear it down tomorrow or Monday.

Yup 99% sure I snapped the input on the rear case. I have the cases ready to pull right now but I'm not as young and invincible as I used to be so I'm going to wait for a buddy to come over and help pull them instead of bench pressing them out myself.

The person who bought the gears new is going to see if TG will warranty the gearset with a 23 spline input (I've seen them do that recently) for me. If they will only send 21 spline back I'm going to sell my setup off and build a 23 spline marlin setup. Worst case is they don't warranty anything and I've got to build 23 spline cases out of pocket.

Question for my toyota folk, will 23 spline in just the rear case be strong enough to not have to worry about it again? What about if I step up to 42's? Or should I look into swapping to a r150 so something so I can do 23 spline throughout?

If you eventually want 42s and maybe larger your best bet may be a R150 trans and an Atlas. If you want to sell your current setup though I know someone needing duals.

Atlas is just so much $ though. I think I'd rather spend that kind of cash on 3 linking the front. I don't have to go 42's but it would be nice to know the cases would hold them if I caught a wild hair

No experience with it but from the pirate builds I've seen it will hold for a little while. An Atlas is expensive but compare that to fully built toy cases and costs aren't that far off.

TG 23 spline inputs are a bad joke compared to the mc input. I've had both. If I'm going to hit a ledge wfo I'm usually side stepping the clutch at 5-6lbs of boost. My input has been dealing with that and 39" stickys for 2yrs now without a hiccup. I snapped a TG input the first time I did that, in loose dirt.

It can be pretty violent

Yeah the marlin total spline input looks beef as hell. I may end up going that route even if TG sends me a 23 spline input. Are you running 23 spline throughout or just in the rear case?

If they send you that input I'll possibly buy it if it's for the 2.28 low. I need one for when I do duals in my Tacoma for the front case.

39" stickys are as big as you'll ever need while still running yotas. Go 42's and you'll have a hand full of other parts at their limits too. Go to 1 tons then the point of building the taco goes out the window anyway.

If you want a bouncer...build one. Otherwise you have a trail rig/Crawler and you just have to drive with that in mind. Doesn't mean you can't beat on it, just ha e to use common sense.

It's for the rear case which is 4.70:1

Yeah I suppose you're right. Plus it would be hard to get 42's to clear the full range of suspension travel up front. I know my thirds could hold them but I might be pushing the limits of the rcv birfs up front since they are still mini truck sized. Or I could just take the turbo off and probably be good but what fun is that? Haha

Did you get your snatch block I left on your trailer?

I broke several I'mputs in my last truck until I Lerned to put the rear case in low first to put less reduction on the I'mput I was good to go after that new buggy has 4.7 single case and I love the simplicity

I have been running Marlin Dual Ultimate Crawler setup from day one with no issues. This includes 39" IROKS, and a bunch of races on 35"s. Do it right the first time.

I'm definitely going to go back with marlin. I would have built marlin cases to start with but I bought the truck with stock duals and my old 82 had this 4.70 case in it so I just did some swapping since I already had everything on hand. What I'm unsure of is if I should go through the trouble of swapping tranny's so I can do 23 spline throughout or if 23 spline in just the rear will be good enough.

Not sure about that but I can tell you that your TG 4.7s won't work with the mc 23spl gear.

Yeah I've read that somewhere before hence why I'll sell my whole setup and build another with marlin gears and adapter
