We Bought a RV Clark!! Oh no! Rebuild thread

I'm seriously never going to own a camper or RV.....

Ok...with all the trim removed, the ladder, lights , and window gone, and and a few wires clipped...

The rear wall should be ready to remove. There is nothing in the way, nothing holding the entire back wall in place, so why is it still standing? Why wont it just fall right down?

Hand me that prybar..the wood is so swollen, its wedged in pretty good.
What? That's all that's holding it...swollen wood? :confused:

But that last picture of Dylan standing at the back...I mean, how very LITTLE holds these things together :eek:

I think the MOLD was the only binder for this one

Not much holds them together on the best brand new day.
Add 20+ years of life, flex, and water...then you have what we have here. Junk under the skin.
 
I have the second night covered! Damn man is all I can say. Keep on keepin on, you will conquer the beast!!
 
Those exterior ladders are shite to begin with if your not 145lbs. soaking wet. I bought one of those little giant fold up ladders and I feel way better about it. Another issue with those damn ladders is the attachment points. They are all just more “holes” for water to penetrate!! Nice scotch locks BTW, obviously some quality factory work right there. I have ran into numerous usages of them on my camper and they are slowly disappearing.

I thought about buying one of those ladders, but I already own 6 ladders and I do FLOORS for a living...I have no idea why I own 6 ladders, but now I am glad I do..lol


I'll add some good wood inside the back wall in all of the right spots. Hopefully the ladder will tighten up a bunch with better anchor points. Get em sealed up real good. Hopefully it might last another 15 or 20 years.
 
Dylan, it seems to me that it would have been less work, and more sturdy, to just build you own damn RV from scratch.

But at least we have all learned just what (doesn't) holds these things together....
 
Alot of work has been accomplished, but it's mostly the same stuff/different wall. Passenger side bedroom wall this time.

Got her all peeled back with new luan going up. We just roll back the wall skin, hang luan(just a couple tacks to hold it) then roll the skin back into position..trace out windows and outdoor boxes etc..., then pull the luan down, jigsaw the holes, place it back into proper position, then glue, screw and staple them into place.

Then it's time for wall studs, window frames and cutting and gluing up foamboard.

Both rear sidewalls are rebuilt and ready for inside paneling .
Look carefully..these photos will serve as my stud blue prints. Lots of measurements that I will need later, seen here, in these pics.

Thread still blows my mind. I don’t know that I’d buy one of these if it wasn’t immaculate and always under a cover, and I also had a cover to keep it under.

Starting to think buying and enclosed trailer would serve me better and the roof would be built better than today’s campers!

Props to you man, cause I’d have cut my losses long ago and had listen to my wife go on and on about how we shouldn’t have bought it, we lost money, and she told me so and blah blah blah.

But when he is done he gets the satisfaction of showing his kids that if you are willing to put in a little work it will pay off in the long run as he will pretty much end up with a new rv that him and his family can enjoy for years. With no monthly payment to the bank.
 
No doubt about that, he will have a better built RV and know exactly what he’s got. I personally don’t have the skills/tools/help/time/space for a project like that. But I very much admire the hard work put in.
Hopefully Dylan gets many years of good service and memories with it!

Harlan is in August...... hurry it up! Let me know when you do that work party, I’ll try to come!
