That's not much of an upgrade....

Bigger/stronger housing than the D30, 30 spline RCV's are quite a bit stronger than D30 chromo's, bigger brakes, plus a marginal gain in R&P strength. It'll last until I transition to a 60/14 bolt.

Save your money and go from 30 to tons you’ll end up saving a ton of money

I would agree except for the way he came into this 44. Little horse trading and he got a bolt in 44 with RCVs, an ARB and the same gear ratio. Hard to turn down even though he has a 60 in the corner lol.

Sell it to cover the cost of tons. A stock set of tons will last a lot longer than a built 44.

I will at a later date just not right away, if I went straight for tons I'd have my rig down for awhile and blow a shit ton of money I don't really want to spend right now. Much rather wheel than tie up jackstands for months.

It's less about "building a tank that will wheel forever" and more about being able to wheel tomorrow.

it's bolt in.

How many folks on here park their heap to "upgrade to tons" and then surf this forum INSTEAD of actually wheeling a functioning rig?

I'd rather spend time wheeling and break something than have something sit in a garage for months/years doing an upgrade that is so time consuming I can no longer wheel.

This is me raising my hand.

My shit is on jack stands.

I’m not gonna lie I traded mine to build a rig on tons and it’s not done yet. But there is a point that you will hit when you break the same thing every time you go out and there isn’t an upgrade besides bigger axles.
Having a built 44 and a 60 in pieces I see what your saying about slapping it in and going.

But seriously @Chris_Keziah you should just go straight to the 60 and give me the 44

When I get the tons built we'll talk.

Truth, on a side not I really want to build a buggy and leave the TJ as a TJ and not full on buggyify it. Even though my progression will prob be TJ to Buggy, then shit buy another TJ that will get turned into a buggy. Rinse lather Repeat.

Don’t be afraid. Join Joe, I, and frankly 90% of nc4x4 web wheelers :D

Stick with the 44. 60 fronts are too heavy. Yes, they are stronger, once you upgrade a few things. But so are 44s, and lighter weight is pretty undervalued around here.

@Noel is running a 44/9 on 42” PBR with no failures, walks all over everything with such good ground clearance. I’m running the same setup with 39.5s

Tons are better, yes, but that doesn’t mean the 44 is worthless. I wheel once a month or more and love the ground clearance with half ton axels. Will I go to tons one day? Maybe. Till then I’m still on the 44 ban wagon. Still an upgrade from a 30. Previous owner of my Jeep got lotsssss of good use out of mine and only broke a few axles, which have a lifetime warranty.

How heavy is that tin box YJ of yours with the tub split down the side? :D I believe weight to be the real killer.

Light a nimble, low and wide. That’s how I ride.

Not the rig but my daily. 07 Tundra. Started getting a loud grinding from the motor. Figured it was the water pump. So, new water pump, thermostat fan pulley bracket, idler pulley, tensioner, and a radiator later the noise is just about gone. I think either the power steering pump or the ac compressor is next(alternator is relatively new). Not bad for a 07 with 180k on it. All original everything else. Took about 6hrs or so to do. Not as bad as I thought it was going to be.
