We Bought a RV Clark!! Oh no! Rebuild thread

Had no fucking clue, figured they cast the trailer in one piece

 Well now you're just being silly. It CAN'T be cast in one piece, or it'd be solid o_O

They have to do it like a chocolate Easter bunny; in 2 halves, so it's hollow inside  then seal the middle seam of the 2 halves. And since it sealed with chocolate, ain't no WAY that seam will bust :driver:

Damn man! You are doing an awesome job Dylan. Makes one wonder how this thing did not just fly apart going down the road. One thing for sure is that it will be better than new once you are done!!

Terminal velocity of this boat isn't very high....

Manufacturers meeting........

Joe: "We should put an under powered drive train in it coupled to limited Suspension. This way it will be way under powered and no one in their right mind will free wheel it down Black Mountain.

Bill: "Right, we can also use the cheapest materials available since the wind shear will never be high enough to rip itself apart."

Joe: "How does industrial cardboard and over sized popsicle sticks sound?"

Bill: "Awesome! Let's cover it with the thinnest gellcoat fiberglass available and it should make it through the prescribed sales pitch of a false warrantee."

Joe: "About that warrantee language...change that one bit to- owner should inspect and reseal annually. Without said proof structural warrantee is nul and void".

You nailed it my friend !

This absolutely amazing! These things are nothing more than a shabbily built shed on a truck frame. WTF ever happened to DOT specs? This is the best thread that's come thru NC4x4 in a LONG time!
Thanks RQ! You are right about how they're built. I have sheds that are much stronger for sure.

Now the driver's side wall is ready for inside paneling. We'll leave that be for a bit...time to focus on the other side and the back walls.

After a day or two of chipping away at it here and there...the passenger's side wall is almost ready. Gotta get all of the insides stuff..

.the foam, wood ect..off before we can peel the skin back and make further repairs.

Also...dont forget, we gotta sand all of these skins to get the last few stubborn layers of luan off.

I ended up taking the plywood off, which serves as a bed frame. This was the only way to access all of the plumbing, the water heater, water pump and fresh water storage tanks. Lots of rotted wood, old nasty carpet and built up filth under here.

The little white foam box in the back left corner is the water heater. I need to remove it in order to peel the outer skin back.

I wasnt sure how to remove it at first....so....you tube to the rescue!

Oh! This is easy, just remove all of the outside access panel screws, the unhook the gas line here..(I'm pointing at it) then the complete unit just slides right out..easy peasy!

Got it!

Look at all this mess! Everything is sitting on top of nasty 20+ year old carpet . This is gonna be a rough job, but its gotta go!

Finally got the wall ready to peel back.

Now its time to start looking at the back wall.
Gotta remove the back storage door, the liscense plate holder/light and the corner trim pcs.

The vinyl screw cover inserts are wasted. They are so brittle, they just break off when you pull on them. This has been a major leak source nearly throughout.

Time to remove this wobbly ladder.A bunch of rusty ,stripped, broken screws holding this thing up. Not real sure how....but I've been up and down it 50 times. I was only able to successfully remove 5 screws intact...the other 20 just pulled right out. Anchored to rotten wood only!

These are the brake lights, seen from the inside, after a layer of wall paneling was peeled away. Look, even the 1 inch wooden frame around this is rotted.
