Some more updates:
These 42" Iroks followed me home :) For now, they are mounted on stock centered H1s, flipped out. My new centers and rings should be arriving soon from GLO.
My wheel centers will be moved in roughly 2" more than they sit now (flipped). That will land me at around 3.5-4" backspacing and ~82" width.
I also finally finished skinning the new floors and skinning the console. I do not enjoy tin-work. It took forever! I coated everything in dupli-color bedliner. Which is much thinner than the herculiner that was in it.
Here are the updates over the past couple weeks:
  • Test mounted the 42s and determined backspacing
  • Skinned the floors
  • Skinned the console
  • Passenger handlebar added
  • Determined placement of switch panel
  • Trans filter and trans drain plug added.
  • Art Carr shifter cables run
  • back-half painted Rustoleum "Regal Red"
Ok... onto the pics:
John helped me clean up and put the last of the 4 H1's together. Those runflats were not fun to install!!!

Holy Crap...you've been busy! Looks great! I can't wait to fire it up and drive it to Scott's house! :driver:

You might not like doing tin work but that interior sure did come out nice!! Looking Good, keep it up!!
Red jeeps... are not just for sorority girls anymore.
ummm not sure with the way you scream (don't ask me how I know) that this changes anything:fuck-you:

A few updates:
My wife (i mean Santa) got me some Autometer gauges for Christmas... I'll be running a Tach, Oil, Water, and Voltage.
ai71.photobucket.com_albums_i135_sff5758_YJ_20Buggy_20Build_JeepDec2008039.jpg

Holes cut in the dash for the column (not bolted in in the picture)... the heat controls will control 2-3 vents in the dash. Since the flat dash covers the defrost ports, this will be converted into heat that blows on the passenger and driver. I ordered 2.5" round vents... more to come shortly.
I painted the dash with the same color Rustoleum, but rolled (insted of spray) on 4 coats with some wet-sanding in between each. Looks pretty good in person. This is how I'll do the hood and cowl as well.
I also just ordered a Comp 6+ switch panel from 12voltguy. This panel uses an integrated fuse block. I am going this route rather than a pre-terminated fuse block. I'll use a small block for random things that arent on the switch panel (turn signals, brake switch, etc)
Also started welding an "orb of traction"

Just received my wheel centers from GLO... still waiting on the rings.

Interior is really looking sweet! I can't wait to ride in it!!!!

We need to get a couple commemorative helmets made up for your first outing!

H1 wheel recentering and rings

I finally received my rings... so with the assistance of JPH0913, who ran a grinder for a few hours, we welded in the new wheel centers.

I bolted the 2 halves together and put 3" spacers between the new wheel center and the existing wheel center. Then I tacked the new centers in before burning them in.

No comments from the welding Nazis please...

JPH0913 took my outer wheel halves back to his place and cut out the centers. He used a lazy susan to rotate the rim while keeping the plasma cutter fixed. Turned out pretty good.

Unfortunately, the H1 valve stems would not be accessible through the rings, so the factory square hole has to be drilled to accept a short valve stem. I believe I used a 29/64 bit.

After all this work, I welded the rings to the outer rim half.

we used some small pipe i think it was 1/2 ID, and we bolted it through the lug holes on the outer half. It worked very well.

Steve, black and red looks great.
