Bourbon

Cowboys blue-ish and an oil tycoon can afford $200/bottle scotch, like I can water.
Past life I traveled to Irving Texas for business and went to this restaurant for lunch. Sort of a bar restaurant place, nice but definitely not stuffy.
This was an old client friend and we had been clay shooting and so we ordered a drink with lunch. I ordered a bourbon and he ordered a scotch.
She said "Would you like Johnny Blue for no upcharge?"
Sure why not. I had never had Blue so I said me too if thats available. Sure thing. We each drank 2 or 3 drinks at ~$5 each...my buddy asks why the blue label is so cheap.
Apparently Jerruh frequents the place for lunch several times per week. Only drinks Johnny Blue and insists on a new unopened bottle brought to his table. Pays them for the whole bottle drinks a drink or two and leaves and leaves the bottle on the table. She says he does this a few times per week. Said after a while every employee and every regular customer had multiple bottles at home and it became a gift elephant. So to drain the well and not pour it down the drain...

Wake County ABC store 21 in KnightDale is holding Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare and McKenna FYI if anyone is near there
They will probably release it Friday, just found out one of the stores I frequent is.

Was hoping for something more rare but I'm not complaining.

Shoutout for the pro tip lead to…you know who you are.

That McKenna is good stuff! I like it better than the others you got
That is my personal favorite.
Of course regular McKenna is my botttom shelf of choice so i guess that makes sense

Got to try something I’ll probably never be able to buy. Saz 18. It was fantastic.

This one is good and hit all the local stores last week.

I'd be interested in that Saz. I've just got the regular Sazerac you can pull off the shelf. How does it compare?
More oak and smoother. It’s great, but not internet price great. Reminds me of rendezvous rye by high west. Just more refined.

Anyone have or know of any hidden gem liquor stores along or around this path??? I’ll be making a slow loop down to Florida soon and I don’t usually come up with much of anything when I google ‘best liquor store/bourbon selection in XYZ’. I think my ‘best’ find has been a couple bottles of EH Taylor. And I’m not so much looking for places like Frugal McDoogle’s just over the border where they just have a lot of the same old stuff, really looking for a top shelf…erm…top shelf selection.

I'd check the small towns, not "best" liquor store. If everyone knows about it they'll be sold out of the allocated items.
