Busy weekend in the garage. Main focus was to tweak some things that I've been wanting to change for a while.
First was the brakes and leaky rear axle bearings.
New bearing and seal without those stupid Currie spacers that leaked so bad with my axle.
To use the correct spacing for the axle bearings and seals, I cut the center out of the original Ford " drum brake center so the spacing is exactly to factory spec.
Cut out drum brake spacer I make in place.
Also wanted to make the axle serviceable without removing the third member so I welded in a drain plug.
Added some more LED rock lights for night wheelin'. Simply because everyone knows night wheelin' is the best! These are little 3M 3 LED pods that I placed in every wheel well and in front of the rear tire.
Finally got the rear brakes mocked up. This was a '97 Dodge Ram rear rotor (for 12" rotor with 5 on 5.5 wheel), K10 Front 4wd truck caliper and pads, on a Ruffstuff weld-on brake caliper bracket. Their bracket needed lots of tweaking to make it work but after a few hours of fitment, it fits tight like it should.
Also built some bump stop mounts for my front bumps to contact. Simple yet effective!
Fun little side note. My 9" axle flanges were too large for any OEM rotor to fit over so I had to turn down my axle shafts so the rotors would fit over them. My idea was to crank the jeep in gear and let the axle turn using the engine power while I ran the angle grinder against the side of the shaft. It worked perfectly for anyone else needing to do this.
